Policy statement

• The clinic does not provide an in-house chaperone service.

• Patients may:

  1. Bring an adult support person of their choice; or

  2. Rebook or be referred to a provider that offers a chaperone service.

• If a chaperone is requested and the patient cannot bring one, do not proceed. Offer rebooking or referral.

• Safeguarding & minimum standards

• Under-18s: A parent/guardian must attend. If not present, do not proceed; rebook or refer.

• Adults at risk: Consider need for a support person. If concerns remain, pause care and follow safeguarding/escalation procedures.

• Family members/children are not appropriate chaperones. An adult support person chosen by the patient may attend where suitable.
